My friend Shawn Goemmer is a cowboy’s cowboy. Raised in a ranching family in La Veta, Colorado, Shawn now resides in Battle Mountain, Nevada. He is serious---- if you ever meet him that will be crystal clear within seconds. Full days of hard ranch work are the norm. The Western Ranch Code dictates that the Jigger Boss ropes all horses for the working hands. He then decides which horse for which hand … he ropes it … you ride it. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, how bad you ride, or what you’re comfortable with. Keep your mouth shut, bridle your mount, and carry on with the day. The decisions he makes have little to do with you, and more to do with the horses. Cow ponies need down time. And it’s Shawn’s job to know who’s ridden down and who’s had a short day.
